SASHIKO BEGINNING.

This morning, bright and early aka stupid o'clock, the postie arrived with the Sashiko coasters kit. Having extra time on my hands, due to waking up so early, something I am not a fan of, I decided to get stared on my first Sashiko project.
There's not a lot of instructions with the kit. I'm going to have to check out some instructional videos. Thank you KaiteYarnGarden for sending a very good one. 
As soon as I started using it, I didn't like the needle sent with the kit. It seemed to be blunt to me but I thought maybe it was because I was so used to hand sewing with smaller  very thin very sharp needles. So I persevered until I had finished the center stitching. My middle finger, the pusher, suffered. I switched to a similar but much sharper big needle for the border lines and it was much easier going. 



I'll add more photos as I finish the sashiko stitching on the other three coasters. By then I may have figured out how to realign the text after inserting photos.

BACK TO THE QUILTS

   The whole idea of this blog was to focus on completing the many quilt tops I have piled up over the past 5 years, and some even going back further, before I complete my orbit in the universe.     This was going to happen along side  my self-taught exploration of the Zen-like slow stitching of the Japanese art of Sashiko.  I'm thinking about making some Japanese knot bags which I can decorate with my my sashiko projects.     I also have some precut quilt kits that I'll be hand piecing as the urge hits. Probably in between sashiko projects.     And, I came across a stack of my own quilt designs yesterday and spent a bit of time considering which ones I really, really, really would like to see completed, even if I do have to cut them myself.

I'M MAKING A TEMPERATURE QUILT 2022

Ive decided I'll make a Temperature quilt this year. This project will slot in amongst shasiko stitching small projects and a few full size quilts I have here, cut and ready to go. For this Celsius temperature quilt I'm doing quilt-as-you-go lozenges. Probably 3.5" or 4.5" max across from point to point.  They will be stacked on their long side in columns. One column per month. It will be a wall hanging. The center of the lozenge will be split in half, low left and high right. I'm using a selection of 17 solid colour fabrics for the centers with a 3 degree breakdown, and 7 aboriginal prints for the backings. I'm awaiting delivery of the fabric and then I will have to go flat out for a couple of days to catch up.  Big photos. I haven't worked out how to make them smaller yet. There doesn't seem to be a way to do it while composing a blog post.

Overwhelming grief and sadness.

Here we are, just days away from the second anniversary of your death, and it is all I can think of.  I miss you My Darling Rod so much sometimes I can't catch my breath. I'm so lonely without you. We used to talk about things so much. Theres no sounding-board, no balance, no reason to exist in my life anymore. My heart aches and my head hurts so much from crying all the time. I can’t stand this empty feeling that I have all the time, all the time, unending. I have no control over my emotions. My heart is broken. I’m breaking into pieces.  You gave me the great happiness My Darling Rod. You were my saviour, my strength. You were in every way all that I could wish for. I can’t fight this overwhelming sadness at loosing you alone. I miss you so so much. I miss the cuddles and hugs and snuggling and holding hands. Oh how I miss holding your hand.
